What is core shamanism?

Core Shamanism consists of the universal, near-universal, and common features of shamanism, together with journeys to other worlds, a distinguishing feature of shamanism. As originated, researched, and developed by Michael Harner, the principles of Core Shamanism are not bound to any specific cultural group or perspective. You can read more about core shamanism here.

Is shamanism “witchcraft”?

No, core shamanism and witchcraft are distinct practices. Core shamanism, developed by anthropologist Michael Harner, focuses on universal shamanic techniques like journeying to spiritual realms for healing and guidance, independent of specific cultural traditions. In contrast, witchcraft typically involves the use of magic or sorcery, often rooted in specific cultural or religious contexts, and may include spellwork, rituals, and interactions with deities or natural forces. While both engage with spiritual elements, their methodologies, origins, and frameworks differ significantly.
